What the pasted-text word counter counts
Paste mode uses Unicode word-like segments. Punctuation is separated according to Unicode's default word-boundary rules before the total enters the formula. Those defaults are useful across many scripts, but Unicode explicitly allows language-specific tailoring and dictionary-based segmentation. A text in a writing system without visible spaces may therefore need a language-aware counter for an editorially exact total.
Use a reading speed that matches the reader and material

It is editable because an individual pace changes with the reader, language, familiarity, text difficulty, purpose, and attention.
