Work Hours Calculator

Work hours calculator results total exact daily and weekly minutes after the unpaid breaks you enter. Complete just one row for a single shift, or use the fixed to combine regular, split, and overnight work periods.

How the work hours calculation uses your weekly entries

Each completed interval becomes exact elapsed minutes, less only the unpaid break entered for that interval. The calculator adds net intervals by , then adds the used for the weekly total.

Complete pairs

Give every used work period both a start and an end reading.

Break once

Enter only unpaid time, and do not deduct a gap already excluded between separate periods.

Check next day

Review the visible next- note whenever an end clock is earlier than its start.

Work hours calculator example

  1. Monday from 08:30 to 17:15 spans 525 gross min.
  2. Subtracting the entered 45 min break gives 480 net min, shown as 8 0 and 8.00 decimal hr.
  3. With the other rows blank, the weekly total is also 8 0 .

Subtract only the breaks you enter

A break changes the result only when you enter it for that work period. The engine subtracts that duration once and also shows the aggregate entered-break total. If you use separate periods before and after a gap, the gap is already outside both intervals, so entering it again would double-deduct it.

Handle split shifts and overnight work

Turn on the work period only for the that needs it. The calculator totals both net intervals into one daily result. When an end clock is earlier than its start, the row receives a visible next- note and the engine applies one midnight rollover to that interval.

Read hours and minutes and decimal hours

Both displays come from the same exact total-minute value. Hours and minutes keep the familiar duration form, while decimal hours divide the exact minutes by the number of minutes per hour and round only the displayed decimal to two places. The stored total remains exact.

Split work hours at a threshold you enter

The advanced field never supplies a threshold. With a calculated total of 38 hr and an entered threshold of 37.5 hr, the engine returns 37.5 hr at or below the threshold and 0.5 hr above it. The partition check remains 38 hr. These are hour buckets, not a pay or legal decision. This worksheet does not decide whether a break is paid, choose an overtime threshold, calculate wages, apply punch rounding, or create an employer record. Use the split only with a threshold you already know. For a printable punch record, use the Time Card Calculator. The Clockout Calculator solves a future departure time. The Decimal Hours Calculator handles conversion without clock readings.
