How to use the tip calculator
Use this when you know the bill and the percentage you want to leave. It handles one check and an even split; it does not allocate different orders between diners or decide what tip rate is appropriate.
Use the check subtotal. Add sales tax under More options only when you want it included in the displayed total.
The percentage field expects a whole , so enter 20 rather than 0.20.
The people field divides the entire bill, tax, and tip evenly. It is not an item-by-item bill splitter.
Example: a $50 bill with a 20% tip
- For a 50 bill, a 20% tip is 10.00, making the full total 60.00.
- Split evenly between 2 people, the tip is 5.00 each and the total is 30.00 each.
How the tip is calculated
Tip = tip base × tip percentage ÷ 100. The total is the bill plus any entered tax plus the tip. By default, the tip applies to the pre-tax bill; if tax is entered, More options can apply it to the post-tax amount instead.
How the per-person split works
The calculator divides both the tip and the final total by the number of people. Currency is rounded to cents, and any cent that cannot be divided evenly is called out in the calculation details.
