This cumulative GPA calculator combines term or school GPAs into one result weighted by the credit hours behind each number. A comparison with the plain average makes the effect of unequal term loads visible.
How to use the cumulative GPA calculator
Use this when your transcript already gives a GPA and credit total for each term or school. If you only have individual course grades, calculate that course-level GPA first.
Each row's credit total must describe the same courses included in that row's GPA.
Do not combine rows reported on different GPA scales without an official conversion.
Semester and quarter credits should not be mixed unless an institution has converted them to a common basis.
Example: two terms with different credit loads
- Combining a 3.60 GPA across 15 credits with a 3.20 GPA across 12 credits gives 92.40 quality points across 27 credits.
- The credit-weighted cumulative GPA is 3.42.
How cumulative GPA is calculated
For each row, GPA × credits gives the quality points represented by that term or school. Add the quality points and divide by the sum of the credits.
Why term GPAs are not simply averaged
A plain average treats a six-credit summer term like a fifteen-credit semester. Credit weighting gives each row influence in proportion to the coursework behind it.
